ReachCentrum is looking for a Legal intern

ReachCentrum is currently looking for an intern (M/F) to join our offices in Brussels for a period of 5 months starting in August 2014. Our preferred candidate is a recent graduate and will have a specialisation and/or interest in contract and business law. Further studies in the field of environmental law would be advantageous, but not a requirement.

ReachCentrum is the professional services body established by Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, which has been designed to help companies all through the value chain to fulfil the requirements of the EU REACH Regulation on chemical substances. ReachCentrum provides guidance to get acquainted with REACH requirements, consortium management, workshop organisation and delivery of in-company training sessions.

ReachCentrum is expanding its service portfolio in line with the evolution of the REACH Regulation. In that respect ReachCentrum is also offering technical know-how regarding the compilation of applications for Authorisations and other consultancy services. In addition ReachCentrum is also supporting chemical companies on the EU Biocides Regulation in force since September 2013.

Job description
As Legal Intern you will: 

  • become familiar with the in-house contractual processes, contracts vocabulary and related legal guidance documentation; 
  • liaise with internal Project Managers and external clients to negotiate and draft routine contracts and agreements; 
  • provide third party contract review and approval;
  • maintain a rigorous follow-up to contract management tools.


  • Degree in law
  • Excellent research and legal analysis skills, with attention to detail a requirement.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English. Other languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to function in a solution oriented capacity.
  • Independent judgment and initiative are required to plan, prioritise and organise a diversified workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience with contractual terms and conditions an advantage.
  • Knowledge in environmental law and in REACH regulation would be highly advantageous
