CONSORTIUM MANAGEMENT

AMS Uses

The REACH Regulation (EC N° 1907/2006) of the European Parliament and of the Council requires the communication for identifying uses for substances in the supply chain from the manufacturers/importers to the end users. The uses will be assigned and communicated in a standardised format, the 'ECHA Use Descriptor System'.

Engagement of the Downstream Users (DU)
As a Downstream User, it is important to ensure that your supplier within the European Union will register the product for the ways in which you use it. To support this registration please be prepared to provide information to your supplier about how you use the product. You should pay particular attention to the potential for human and environmental exposure. Make sure you review the safe handling procedures proposed by your supplier. The supplier has to be informed if these procedures are not applicable in your workplace.

For more information, please read the following documents:

In the attached excel file you will find the proposed Use Descriptors’ Sets for Alpha-methyl styrene (AMS) or 2-phenylpropene (EC 202-705-0), which are based on the European Chemical Agency Technical Guidance Document.

    • Please check the appropriate proposed Use Descriptor Set
    • If you agree that the given proposal covers your uses no action from your side is required
    • If you notice that the proposed Use Descriptor Set is not complete, please contact directly your appropriate supplier via the usual channels of communication.

Please note that feedbacks to your supplier is appreciated by the 1st of December, 2009 at the latest. In case the members of our consortium would not receive any feedback from you by the 1st of December, 2009, we would assume that the proposed Use Descriptor Set is accepted by you.

Use Descriptor Set AMS
Please mention that the content of this file is not the final version for the registration under REACH for the substances within the scope of the P&D consortium. Your feedback is important for the consortium to evaluate which exposure scenarios could be supported.

As a not legally binding example how to define descriptors please find a Use Description of our consortium member Shell.

Please keep in mind that not all PC and AC Descriptors fall under the REACH Regulation and that not all PC and AC Descriptors will be supported by the ECETOC TRA Tool. Due to several draft versions of the Descriptor System since May, 2008 here is an overview of the Use Descriptor System for more information (last update June 2009).

Do not hesitate to contact your appropriate supplier in case of questions.
